Our Rivers: Vital Ecosystems We Protect
At Lakeshore Trout Unlimited, we are deeply committed to the preservation of the rivers that sustain local fish populations and provide recreational opportunities for our community. Our focus is on restoring and maintaining the health of key rivers in the region, including the Onion River, La Budde Creek, Mullet River, and others. Through habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, and ongoing conservation efforts, we work to ensure these rivers remain vibrant ecosystems for native species and healthy environments for future generations. Hands-On Conservation: Protecting Our Cold-Water Resources for Future Generations
Lakeshore Trout Unlimited is a dedicated, all-volunteer organization with a hands-on approach to conserving and restoring our local cold-water ecosystems. Celebrating over 40 years of service, we focus on habitat restoration, improving public recreation areas, and fostering a deep appreciation for nature in future generations. Our work spans across Calumet, Kewanee, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan Counties, with a particular focus on cold-water streams. As the Adopt-a-Fishery partner for the Onion River Public Fishery, we are committed to preserving this high-quality trout fishing resource in Sheboygan County. Additionally, our members lead the Water Action Volunteers (WAV) water testing programs in Sheboygan and Manitowoc Counties, ensuring that our waters remain healthy. Through our youth education initiatives like Trout-in-the-Classroom and STREAM Camps, we partner with local organizations—including the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, YMCA Camp Y-Koda, and local schools—to teach young people about water ecology, conservation, and the joys of fishing and outdoor recreation.
